  1. Did you know French Polynesia is made up of 118 different islands? It makes this destination one you can re-visit time and time again. What is even more incredible is that the country is almost as big as Europe! But here is the real kicker: it only has about 280,000 inhabitants! Just let this sink in and then you realize how truly unspoiled most of French Polynesia is.

  2. 5 vowels (the usual suspects :)) and 9 consonants and their combinations make up the Tahitian language versus 26 letters in the English language. The 9 consonants are F, H, M, N, P, R, T, V and ' (which is called 'eta). I recommend you learn at least a few Tahitian words before going on your trip. Check out Porinetia Adventures on YouTube for some lessons.

  3. Did you just get engaged or are you married? Pay attention on where you stick an amazingly fragrant tiare flower in your hair! If you are single, you would put the tiare flower on the right but if you are "spoken for", you indicate this by wearing the flower on the left side!

  4. Do you have a tatoo? They originated in French Polynesia (it comes from the world tatau). They mark the passage into adulthood and tell a person's story. No anesthesia for Polynesian tatoos with a bamboo needle...You will be forever connected to these beautiful islands and amazing people if you are brave enough to get a tatoo in Tahiti. Send me a photo if you are! :-P

  5. And what is French Polynesia mostly known for? You guessed it: romantic overwater. bungalows which provide endless views over the azure lagoons. They were first invented here in 1967! Many destinations have now copied the concept, but if you want to experience this luxurious accommodation type, then I would highly recommend you do it in their original home.
