Portugal calling in 2019

Welcome to the very first Allez les Belges blog post of the new year! I hope you all had an enjoyable and safe end of the year celebration.

I am about to fly to Lisbon, Portugal tomorrow! So I thought it would be appropriate to introduce Henk and Ann and their B&B in Palmela, Portugal (about 1 hour from Lisbon).

They were also featured on VTM recently, perhaps you saw their Belgian TV appearance in the program Met Vier in Bed?

Wat is your role in the tourism industry? Since 2017, we have been running a B&B in our renovated typical quinta. Our B&B has four suite rooms. We are currently working on an expansion and completion of our quinta. For instance, we are working on the design of our garden. Excursions and activities in our beautiful region will also be on offer soon, in collaboration with our local contacts. Even though the Serra da Arrabída is only 45km south of Lisbon (you can even see it from several lookout posts in the city), it is still a fairly unknown part of the country for many. This region has a lot to offer, so we are inviting everyone to come and discover it!

What is your own favorite destination?

When we travel we prefer to be in nature (especially near mountains and forests) to hike and we like to explore. We have traveled in Brasil and visited the natural beauty in all corners of this country. A few favorites which we will never forget are the Foz do Iguaçu waterfalls on the border with Argentina, Lençois Maranhenses, Pantanal in Mato Grosso and the Amazon river near Manaus.

When we want to stay more local, we like to go hiking in the Madeira region in Portugal.

Wat is your personal motto?

Not going, is not an option!

What do you miss from Belgium?

Once in a while we miss some Côte d’Or chocolate and a larger assortment of charcuterie. We can sometimes find something in the El Corte Inglês department store in Lisbon or in the gourmet stores in the capital city.
