You are going to Italy! If you are stumped on what to pack, here is your essential warm-weather packing guide that will help you prepare for your escape to bella Italia.

Clothing Essentials
The key for dressing in Italy when it’s summer time, is dressing in light and neutral colors and bring layers. To blend in better: Dress in understated, quality basics with minimal branding and without flashy colors and take it slowly :)
Daytime Wear
4–5 lightweight linen or cotton tops in cream, white, soft blue, and neutral tones
2 lightweight linen or cotton pants in natural colors
2 casual linen dresses or below the knee skirts in natural colors
1 lightweight cardigan in cream or camel for layering and dressing up more casual clothing
1 pair of lightweight darker colored pants for cooler evenings
Evening Wear
2 elegant dinner dresses or more sophisticated separates—in classic colors and subtle patterns
1 lightweight wrap or pashmina in a neutral color (essential for layering at dinner and respecting dress codes at religious sites)
2-3 linen or cotton dress shirts for more upscale casual dining
Undergarments & Basics
6–7 pairs of cotton underwear and a few lightweight bras
Your favorite cotton pajamas (shorts or pants)
Lightweight socks: But you'll mainly wear sandals and shoes without socks in summer
A swimsuit or bikini
The key is to take a neutral color palette—creams, whites, soft blues, taupes, so pieces mix and match easily throughout your trip.
Footwear
Italian streets means ancient cobblestones, so comfortable shoes are the most important to pack

Comfortable walking shoes: A pair of nice leather sneakers, loafers, or flat leather shoes in a neutral tone
Elegant sandals: Strappy leather sandals or flat sandals perfect for warm days and casual dining. Choose neutral or metallic finishes
Evening shoes: A pair of nicer low heels, more elegant flats, or dressy sandals suitable for upscale restaurants
Water shoes or flip flops: if you plan on going to the beach or boating. Leave brightly colored pairs at home and choose more neutral colors
Additional tip: Do not take brand new shoes; make sure your shoes are broken in before you head for Italy
Accessories & Miscellaneous
Accessories transform your look while serving practical purposes in Italy's summer climate.

Lightweight scarves: 2 or 3 for layering, sun protection, and respecting dress codes at religious sites, Avoid sleeveless tops when visiting cathedrals or basilicas. You can be turned away if your knees and shoulders are bare
Sunglasses: A good pair that offers UV protection
Hat or cap: A lightweight, packable straw hat or cotton cap for sun protection during daytime sightseeing
Compact rain jacket: A lightweight, packable nylon or tech fabric jacket for occasional thunderstorms
Crossbody bag or anti-theft bag: for keeping all your valuables save, choose a bag that is close to your body. Not a backpack with zippers
Lanyard for your phone: phones are a new target for pickpocket, it’s best to keep them on a lanyard and not to leave them on table somewhere
Leave all your jewelry and nice watches at home. You can go shopping in Italy for a nice piece of jewelry
Foldable lightweight shopping bag
A wine bottle opener
Toiletries & Sun Protection
Italian summers are generous with sunshine, and you will need to protect yourself.

High-SPF sunscreen: Bring a broad-spectrum SPF 50+ and apply regularly
After sun lotion with aloe vera: perfect to calm your skin at the end of a sunny day
Lip balm with SPF: Essential for sunny days
A pack of eye masks: Cooling eye masks to help rest your eyes
Travel-size deodorant: A deodorant stick is preferred for travel
Your favorite hair care products: If they are in solid bar form instead of liquid, they will be even easier to pack.
Personal medications: Any prescriptions or regular supplements/vitamins in original containers
Feminine hygiene products (if needed): Easier to bring from home than to shop for abroad
Basic first-aid items: Band-aids for potential blisters, a pain reliever, and any digestive aids
Dental care products: It’s best to leave the electric toothbrush at home and take a conventional one
Eye drops and/or contact supplies: If applicable
Tech & Travel Essentials

Passport copy: a hard copy of your photo page and the last page with the bar code (for US passports).

Voltage converter (if needed): Check your devices; most modern electronics auto-adjust to 220V European standard

Last but not least: pack your patience! Italy's classic cities are highly visited in summer time. You will not be alone.
Bonus Tips for Packing Smart
Most importantly: Pack Light! Choose quality over quantity. Pack fewer, versatile pieces that coordinate easily
You can use packing cubes to help organize your suitcase. Or you can use the rolling method to roll up your clothing
Embrace the Italian Lifestyle! Italians dress elegantly even casually. Skip athletic wear for sightseeing so you don’t stand out as much as a tourist
Always verify your airline's specific luggage policies before packing
